Remodel of a dated home in Westmount, Montreal
Les Ensembliers breathed new life into a house that had been home to their clients for years. The mission was clear: to modernize whilst preserving the house's timeless spirit and architectural charm. The clients envisioned a home that was inviting yet infused with a fresh, contemporary twist, all while paying homage to its traditional architecture.
The project's core objective was to showcase their stunning contemporary art collection within a traditional backdrop, seamlessly blending modern elements into the existing structure. Materials and colors were carefully selected to accentuate the house's old-world character, providing a soft landscape for the works of art that now adorn its walls.
The entrance saw the addition of bespoke metal doors, and striking, patterned stone floors pay homage to the past. In the kitchen, designed for both culinary pursuits and entertainment, a rich caramel wood was chosen, lending a fresh interpretation to a shaker-style aesthetic. Metal cabinets and an island further echo the home's historical charm.
Special attention went to the dining room, where the paneling was restored to its original state, embracing its unique imperfections. Here, a natural wax was applied to protect the wood and preserve its natural beauty. The room truly comes to life with the interplay of light during the day and exudes warmth in the evenings, complemented by a custom light fixture by Apparatus.
The result is a home that feels like the clients themselves—a harmonious blend of old and new, brightness and warmth, tradition and modernity.
