Winter hideaway on a hilltop
Winter hideaway on a hilltop
A family hunting camp was repurposed, bringing new life to the old 3,000-square-foot structure. Les Ensembliers was commissioned to design, renovate and decorate this 'off the grid' gem. It was a challenging undertaking to renovate a house in such a remote location, 6 hours north of Montreal. The objective was to create a warm, enveloping, luxury lodge with all the desired amenities.
Used as a winter hideaway, the home boasts views of white-capped mountains and a decor that is soulful, featuring a variety of textures and patterns within a colorful scheme. To give the place its textural, moody ambiance we focused on the use of warm tones, deep velvets, and chose materials like herringbone-motifed wool curtains for use throughout the different spaces. Warm wood tones and exposed beams, juxtaposed to grasscloth and refined contemporary arches and architectural details, add to the cabin's character and create the perfect modern lodge feel.
The project began by gutting the entire house, revisiting the layout and building an addition for guest suites. The new floor plan includes a large living space, a cozy lounge, a generous chef's kitchen and a dining room with a gas fireplace for those cold winter days. All the rooms get the best views, including the generous main suite: a true experience of the senses, it features a strong architectural composition layered with a sophisticated decorative scheme, as well as large double windows facing the sunset behind the mountain. Now that’s what we call cabin living!
