A breath of fresh air
Located in Outremont, this early 20th-century residence still bore the imprint of a bygone way of living. While its envelope retained all its charm, the interior remained dark and compartmentalized, out of tune with contemporary life.
The intervention was guided by a clear vision: to renew without erasing, to lighten without diluting. The key was not simply to open up the space, but to reveal its latent potential by rebalancing the dialogue between light, circulation, and use.
The project unfolded through a series of precise gestures, each working to connect what had long been divided. Spaces were reconfigured to establish a softer, more fluid continuity, particularly at the rear, where the house now extends seamlessly toward the garden. Visual openings and softened transitions allow light to move freely throughout, reshaping the perception of volume and flow.
Materiality follows the same logic of restraint and clarity. Surfaces were lightened, textures selected for their ability to catch and diffuse light, while existing elements were carefully preserved and integrated into a renewed overall coherence.
Today, the residence has taken on a new sense of ease. More open, more legible, it now aligns with the rhythms of daily life, while retaining the composure and quiet elegance that define its character.
